Videos: Architecture:The Science of Design and Prairie Style

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
  • Modern Architecture-simplified, ornamented building style from the 19th and 20th century
  • Architect-a person who designs buildings and in many cases also supervises their construction
  • Prairie Style-innovative style of the early 20th century
  • Smart House- a house highly advanced automatic systems for lighting, temp control, multi media, security, and window and door operations.
  • Wind Tunnel-a tunnel- like apparatus for producing an air-stream of known velocity past models of aircraft, buildings,etc.
  • Skyscraper-a very tall building of many stories
  • Concrete-existing in a material or physical form; real or solid; not abstract
  • Superstructure-a structure build on top of something else
  • Underground Substructure- foundation of a building

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
  • The videos relate to the readings in the text because like the videos it talks about the construction of architecture.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
  • The film adds the visuals and gives examples of different forms of architecture.

4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
  • I chose these films because they had the most interesting titles.
