1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
- I chose the video Velázquez because I heard about in the past and I wanted to know more about him. I chose the video Albrecht Durer:Image of Master because after reading the description it seemed interesting.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Velazquez key concepts:
- King Phillip The Fourth-engaged in foreign wars
- Prado Collection-collection of his paintings in Prado museum
- Greatest Painters of Spain Quartet-Velazquez,El Greco,Goya and Picasso
- Court Painter-an artist who painted for the members of a royal or noble family, sometimes on a fixed salary and on an exclusive basis where the artist was not to undertake other work.
Albrect Durer: Image of Master key concepts:
- Northern Renaissance-Renaissance that occurred in Europe north of the Alps.
- Albrect Durer-gifted and versatile, considered one of the greats
- Print-maker- a individual who uses techniques such as woodcuts or silk screens to create image which are transposed onto surfaces, generally using a printing press.
- Landscape artist-an individual who paints natural scenery like mountains, trees, rivers and valleys.
- Gothic Art-a style of medieval art that developed in Northern France out of Romanesque art in the 12th century AD.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
- The videos relate to the readings in the text because they both talk discuss the Renaissance in the North, the 17th and 18th centuries.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
- I think the films did a good job adding depth to the readings by going into details of the lives of these very different artists. It was nice to read and see visuals about the Renaissance of the North.
