Module 9: Exploring Line

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?
  • It was interesting using my hand as a subject matter because I never really look at the details that make my hand what it is. I'm always so busy focusing on what my hands can do but I never really take the time to really look at them.

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?
  • I selected Pencil because its easier for my to handle and I feel more comfortable using this media.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?
  • It felt very different because I only use my left hand when I really have too. I wasn't as confident as I was using my right hand.

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?
  • I'm right handed so my left hand is my subject I like the subject hand better because it looks exactly like the inside of my left hand. The right hand which is the second hand in the drawing is like my right hand in the inside but it is a little bigger compared to the left hand. I think they are successful studies of my hands because they are very similar to my real hands.

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?
  •  Unless my dominant hand was broken, I would probably not do artwork in the future with my non-dominant hand because I prefer my dominant hand.

    http://artistsnotion.blogspot.com/

2. Looking at Project #1 I definitely agree with the images of the elements and principles I really loved her space, movement and emphasis images. In her image for balance I also saw space.

2b. Looking at Project #1 I think she really understood the idea of elements and principles she had some good images.

3. Looking at Project #2 we both picked the image by Alberto Magnelli (Peinture NO.0528), we did not have the same reasons for choosing this painting for me it was a extra piece that I really wanted to share for her she wanted to know more about it.

3b. Looking at Project #2 we did not pick any of the same images.

4. Some images that pique my interests was Round Trip 1957 by Helen Frankenthaler I  really like the colors and it looks like people or animals are falling out of the sky.

4b. One image that I really liked was Joe Zucker, Walleye it reminds me of space for some reason.

5. I think its good to do every once and a while to get a glimpse
inside the head of my peers and what kind of works of art they come up with.

6. I don't have any comments yet I will come back to this question when I receive comments.

A.) The artworks that make an impression on me are number 2 (Numbers in Color) and number 5  (Painting No.46) these too pieces really stood out to me I love the vibrant colors used in both and I  really like the details in the shapes in number 5 it kind of reminds me of sushi. I really like how the artist in number 2 made the numbers the star of the piece, you can't even tell it was created using newspaper.
B.) The artworks I feel a connection with are number 3 (Tam Gan)  and 4 (Frauenbildnis Portrait of A Woman)  as soon as I saw number 4 I was drawn to the fact that I saw a black women especially being created in 1911. She looks strong, she looks like a classy woman and I can relate to that.I connected to number 3 because I saw a innocent shy girl and she looks very timid and I remember being like that when I was younger.
C.) The artworks I would like to know more about are number 1 (Harlequin) and 7 (Theater Box). I want to know who the lady is in the Theater, why is her back to us, I would like to know what the expression on her face is. Number 1 is very different, I want to know was the other thinking about balance when he was creating this, was he thinking about death?  because it looks as if its a person holding a head.

Art Making/Material Exploration #2: Logo Design

  1. I really liked creating my logo, I love natural hair and my natural hair is definitely apart me that's why I choose to focus on that for my logo.
  2.  The process wasn't that complex. I knew I wanted to do some kind of silhouette, so I decided to do my side profile from when I was a little girl. After I sketched the profile I wanted to show one of my favorite hair styles a high puff. Inside the puff I put in different words that describe natural hair(kinky, curly, wavy, coily, nappy, afro, thick, and course) and all of this words have been used to describe my hair at some point in my life.
  3. The most important discovery I made in creating this logo is i'm finally happy expressing myself, I used to think my natural hair wasn't beautiful, and now I know that's not true, and now i'm perfectly okay with being naturally me.
  4. The most important information I learned from watching the videos is you will have many prototypes, and sketches before you get your final product. In the PowerPoint I learned that logo means word and in order to set the foundation stone for a good brand career you have to have a good logo. In the readings I learned that amateurs can create their on advertisements in response to professionally produced work. I thought the videos were very informative, and very interesting they were useful in the process of making my logo.
